How to diagnose what support your mentee needs

One of the challenges you’ll face in early mentoring sessions is when a mentee can’t articulate exactly what support they need. You might do your preparation and go in expecting to talk about one topic – only to find out they need help in a totally different area.

Don’t panic when that happens! Learn how other mentors diagnose what support a mentee needs, and why it’s okay to not have all the answers.

Managing your mentee's expectations

Mentoring has to be a two-way relationship. While you’ll be providing advice and support as a mentor, your role isn’t to take charge of your mentee’s business and do everything for them!
